When Maxwell Olivero started his journey at Michigan State University in 2010, he was pleasantly surprised to find his new school had made a special effort to reach out to him. The New2U program, developed by MSU’s Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender Resource Center (LBGTRC), helped provide him with “a very positive support system” as soon as he arrived on campus. “New2U made me feel welcome to MSU as a queer student and introduced me to a group of friends that I knew I could be myself around,” said Olivero, who today serves as a field experience coordinator at MSU’s James Madison![]()
